Popular Pumpkin and Apple Farms in New York State | HUNT Real Estate ERA

Once the crisp air settles in, the footballs are flying and autumnal hue surrounds us, we know fall has arrived. Before the bitter cold hits and winter inhibits us from getting outside as much and traveling around, the fall still beckons plenty of outdoor activity and adventure. Getting a football game together with friends, tailgating for a Bills game, Oktoberfest celebrations or even just going for a drive to check out the beautiful autumn landscapes of the Southern Tier and Central New York are all wonderful benefits of living in New York during the fall.

One of the best things to do during the fall is visit a pumpkin or apple farm. There is no shortage of options across the state, and we’ve narrowed it down to a few selections that draw attention and crowds every year. We hope you get a chance to check these out for yourself.

The Great Pumpkin Farm – Buffalo Area – Located on the edge of Clarence, NY is the Great Pumpkin Farm. This large area has plenty to offer every weekend from September 14 to October 31. It’s open daily with special activities and events every weekend. It’s a perfect spot for families, couples, friends and kids. Aside from a huge selection of pumpkins to buy before you leave, The Great Pumpkin Farm has rides, plenty of food options, arts and crafts, gift shops, a haunted house and a GIANT corn maze. Don’t forget to check out the potato launchers and events pavilion for special events and contests.

Cost: Weekdays are free, last six weekends are $5.

Becker Farms – Niagara Frontier Area – “Becker Farms Goal is to provide families with the opportunity to visit the countryside and embrace what Mother Nature provides us among family and friends.” That’s exactly what you’ll get if you travel up to Gasport, NY, just south of Lake Ontario. Still left in October is The Pumpkin Fiesta. The remaining days to visit are the 13, 14, 19, 20, 26 and 27. Kids will enjoy plenty of activities including The Castle Labyrinth, pig races, pony rides and hayrides. There’s plenty of food to enjoy around the farm along with animals to visit. Don’t forget to walk away with a giant pumpkin to carve or paint when you get home.

Cost: Free Live music from 1pm to 4pm. Wine tasting $2 and beer tasting $5.

Pumpkin Hollow – Rochester Area – Gro-Moore Farms is located outside of Rochester in Henrietta, NY. The whole family will enjoy exciting activities on the farm. Pumpkin Hollow runs from September 21-October 27. Pumpkin Hollow is geared more towards families and children with a real chance to create lasting memories. There are two mazes, a kids haunted house, a pumpkin slide, and of course plenty of pumpkins and produce to take home at the end of the day. Even more, there is a John Deere Train Ride, mini golf, tractor wagon rides and pumpkin painting. As with all great pumpkin farms, you’ll enjoy plenty of great food and drinks while you’re there.

Cost: You can choose to pay for the activities you want, or the pay one price ticket is only $10 per child - mom & dad are free!

Critz Farms – Syracuse Area – Located southeast of Syracuse in Cazenovia, NY is a beautiful farm that annually hosts the fall harvest festivals. From September 14 to October 27, you can experience ongoing activities as well as special events and entertainment for people of all ages. Perhaps their most unique feature is the “gigantic Mustang Madness Corn Maze.” Aside from the maze, check out the animal area with over 25 animals, wagon rides through the orchard and pumpkin fields, cider making demonstrations and plenty of fall decorating supplies to bring home. Don’t forget to check out their special events like magic shows, motorcycle Sunday and a few tractor pulls, to name a few.

Cost: $7.50 per person on weekends with a maximum cost of $30 per family.

Ellms Farms – Albany Area – If you live near the Albany area, head out to Ballston Spa and Ellms Farm. Open now through the 27th, the farm has all the favorites you’re looking for in the fall. Pumpkins, corn mazes, and hayrides are all here for you and your family. Check out the pick your own pumpkin patch and a unique feature, the Jumping Pillow. “This unique, safe fitness equipment that is ideal for an all-age activity, providing Upstate NY family fun suitable to all shapes and sizes.” While you’re there, you have to try the apple cider donuts. They’re made fresh on the farm and are truly delicious.
